As an educator, your mission was to help your students prepare for a bright future. This meant giving it your all and spending countless hours creating thoughtful lesson plans. Now it’s time to create the most important lesson plan of all, your retirement plan. We are your Bencor DROP Support headquarters, and we’re here to help you make the most out of your retirement! Whether it’s traveling the world, spending time with loved ones, volunteering, or taking up a new hobby, we’ll create a customized retirement plan designed specifically for you and your retirement goals.

For nearly 30 years Bencor has proudly served Florida educators with all of their DROP Support needs. That means we bring a wealth of knowledge and resources to help you plan for retirement. You can meet with a Bencor Advisor to get your questions answered about the Florida Retirement System (FRS) and DROP and discuss how they can help you  create dependable lifetime income streams with strategies designed to help you avoid overpaying on taxes.

Maximize Your DROP

The Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) is a voluntary retirement program available to FRS Pension Plan members who qualify for normal retirement. It allows you to delay your retirement for up to 96 months from the point where you first reach your normal retirement date or your eligible deferral date.

Once you have entered DROP, you continue to work for an FRS employer and earn a salary while your retirement benefits accumulate in the FRS Trust Fund and earn tax-deferred interest. However, you stop earning retirement service credit due to the fact that you are considered to be retired. Upon exiting DROP, you will receive your accumulated funds and your monthly retirement benefit. You must terminate your FRS employment at that point to avoid forfeiting your DROP benefits.

The Importance of Designating Beneficiaries

When life gets hectic and your to-do list seems endless, it can be easy to let financial planning details slip through the cracks. However, updates to your designated beneficiaries on 401(k) plans, IRA accounts, and other retirement assets is vitally important.

What to Consider in Your Charitable Giving Plan

Congratulations! You’ve decided to give to a charitable organization. Charitable giving is a wonderful way to help further causes you are passionate about and feel good while doing it.

Managing Inflation

Managing Inflation in Retirement

You may have noticed that the things you buy regularly have become more costly, and you may be pondering if inflation will stay high. For individuals close to retirement or already retired, it is essential to take measures to protect themselves from the eroding effects of inflation.

Making the Transition to Retired Life

After all your years of hard work and disciplined saving, you’ve made it to retirement – congratulations! Now, the challenge becomes tackling common retirement transition concerns so that you can live out the ideal retirement you’ve dreamed of.

The Fundamentals of Estate Planning

Estate planning can be an emotional process. After all, it’s difficult to think about things like who will raise your children, or which loved one will best manage your financial assets. Estate planning is necessary, however, because without a will, your estate may end up in court. This means it could be divvied up based on a judge’s ruling, rather than on your personal wishes.

Addressing Market Volatility in Today's World

Planning for retirement is never a “set it and forget it” task. There are unexpected disasters, market drops, and changing laws that could cause retirees to reevaluate their financial situation. Ultimately, there’s no way to predict everything that will cause market downturns. However, you can prepare yourself for one by having a solid financial strategy in place.
